What it is and what it does
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1016-1AP02-1AA0 is a Size S00 power contactor, rated for switching motor loads up to 5.5 kW at 690 V. The 24 VDC coil draws its holding current from a standard control supply. The AC-2 rating at 400 V is 4 kW, and the AC-4 rating at 400 V is 8.5 A — that's the reversing or inching duty cycle, where the contactor makes and breaks full load current. Mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022. Front face carries IP20 finger protection; the terminals themselves are also IP20. Side-by-side mounting is allowed with 6 mm spacing to adjacent devices. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, and the altitude limit is 2 000 m. Mechanical life is rated at 30 million operations typical — that's the contactor body, not the contacts under load.
Termination and wiring
Main current circuit uses screw-type terminals. Accepts solid or stranded conductors: 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²). AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), or 1x 12. For Type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor under short circuit) use a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A. For Type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after fault) the fuse can be 35 A.
