What it is and where it fits
The Siemens 3RT1016-1AP02-ZW98 is a SIRIUS power contactor in frame size S00 — the smallest in the SIRIUS family, built for switching motor loads in control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, so it integrates into a standard panel layout without special bracketry. At 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm tall, and 72 mm deep, it occupies a single 45 mm module on the rail — a compact footprint that leaves room for auxiliary contact blocks or overload relays alongside it on the same DIN rail.
Key ratings and what they mean for your load
Rated at 4 kW at AC-2 duty on 400 V, this contactor handles slip-ring motor loads — starting and running — up to that power. For AC-4 duty (plugging, inching, reversing) at 400 V, it carries 8.5 A, which is the rating that governs frequent jogging or reversing applications. The AC-12 maximum operating current is 10 A, covering resistive and solid-state loads in control circuits. The contactor is rated for a 50 Hz supply at 230 V and a 60 Hz supply at 230 V, with the coil operating range spanning 0.8 to 1.1 times rated voltage at 50 Hz and 0.85 to 1.1 at 60 Hz. That means it holds in across a sag down to about 184 V on a 230 V nominal 50 Hz line. For short-circuit coordination, Type 2 coordination requires a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A; Type 1 coordination allows a 35 A gL/gG fuse. The difference matters for panel builders: Type 2 leaves the contactor usable after a fault; Type 1 may require replacement.
Terminals and wiring
Main current circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or up to 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid or stranded conductors. AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), or 1x 12. The IP20 rating on the front and terminals means finger-safe for panel installation, but not protected against moisture — keep it inside a sealed enclosure.
