What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-1AP05-ZX95 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the compact S00 frame size, designed for switching motor loads in control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm standard mounting rail per DIN EN 50022, which means it integrates directly into a standard panel layout without adapter plates. For motor duty, the contactor is rated 4.5 kW at 500 V and 5.5 kW at 690 V. The AC-4 rating at 400 V is 8.5 A, which governs the switching of inching or plugging duty cycles where the contactor makes and breaks motor current under load. The AC-2 rating at 400 V is 4 kW, covering slip-ring motor starting. Auxiliary contact block provides 3 instantaneous contacts, rated 10 A at 24 V, 6 A at 230 V, and 3 A at 400 V, among other voltage taps. This covers feedback to a PLC or holding-circuit interlocking without an add-on block.
Integration and wiring
Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid or stranded conductors. AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), and 1x 12. This covers typical motor feeder cables up to 4 mm² without needing lug adapters. The contactor occupies 45 mm width, 57.5 mm height, and 114 mm depth. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with zero side clearance, so multiple units pack tightly on the DIN rail. The front face carries IP20 protection; the terminals are also IP20, meaning finger-safe during panel access. For short-circuit coordination, Type 1 coordination requires a 35 A gL/gG fuse; Type 2 coordination requires a 20 A gL/gG fuse. This determines the upstream protective device selection for the panel schedule.
Environmental and lifecycle
Mechanical service life is typical 30,000,000 operations, which reflects the contactor's endurance in high-cycle applications like conveyor or packaging machinery. The operating voltage range factor is 0.8 to 1.1 at 50 Hz and 0.85 to 1.1 at 60 Hz, meaning the coil holds in across a sag down to 80% of nominal at 50 Hz, and 85% at 60 Hz.
