What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-1AQ05 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the compact S00 frame size, designed for switching motor loads and resistive loads in industrial control panels. It carries a 24 VDC coil and is rated for a 10 A operational current at 24 V (AC-12), with an AC-4 rating of 8.5 A at 400 V for reversing or inching duty. The contactor snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022 and uses screw-type terminals for the main circuit.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
The 10 A rating at 24 V (AC-12) covers resistive and transformer loads at that voltage. For motor switching, the AC-4 rating of 8.5 A at 400 V is the figure that governs reversing or plug-stop applications — that's the duty cycle that stresses the contacts hardest. The AC-2 rating of 4 kW at 400 V applies to slip-ring motor starting. The mechanical life of 30,000,000 cycles tells you the contactor is built for high-cycle applications like conveyor or packaging lines. The operating temperature range of -25 to +60 °C and pollution degree 3 rating mean it's suitable for typical industrial enclosures without derating for moderate dust or conductive contamination. The maximum operating altitude is 2,000 m; above that, dielectric strength and cooling derate apply per IEC 60947.
Mounting and integration
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The 45 mm width and 57.5 mm height fit standard panel layouts. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with a 6 mm clearance to adjacent devices for heat dissipation. The IP20 protection on the front and terminals means it's finger-safe inside an enclosure but not washdown-rated.
Wiring and coordination
Screw terminals accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid or stranded conductors. For type 2 coordination (no weld under fault), use a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A; for type 1 coordination (device may be damaged but no fire risk), a 35 A fuse is allowed. These are the values to specify when designing the branch circuit protection.
