SIRIUS S00 power contactor — panel-fit and switching capability
The Siemens 3RT1016-1AR05-ZX95 is a SIRIUS S00-frame power contactor, screw-and-snap-on mounted to a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. At 45 mm wide by 57.5 mm tall and 114 mm deep, it fits the compact S00 footprint that leaves room for auxiliary contact blocks alongside. Side-by-side mounting is permitted, so you can gang several contactors on the same rail without forced spacing. Rated for AC-2 duty at 4 kW and AC-4 at 8.5 A, both at 400 V, this contactor handles reversing or plugging motor loads where the current doesn't drop to zero between operations. The AC-4 figure is the one to watch for frequent jogging or inching — it governs contact life under those conditions. For resistive or lightly inductive loads, the AC-12 rating of 10 A applies. DC switching capability is present across several voltages: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V. That covers most control-circuit and small DC-motor applications without an interposing relay.
Termination and wiring
Screw-type terminals on the main current circuit accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or up to 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid or stranded conductors. AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), and 1x 12. The terminals are IP20 finger-safe, so the panel doesn't require additional shrouding on the contactor itself. Pollution degree 3 rating means it's suited for industrial environments with conductive or dry non-conductive contamination — typical for control panels in factory floors, not clean rooms.
Coordination and protection
For type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor after a short circuit), the required upstream fuse is gL/gG 20 A. For type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after a fault), the fuse can be 35 A. This lets the panel designer choose between protection level and fuse economy. Operating ambient temperature spans -25 to +60 °C, and the maximum operating altitude is 2 000 m without derating. Mechanical life is rated at 30 million operations, which is typical for the S00 frame in light-duty cycling.
