SIRIUS S00 power contactor — what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens 3RT1016-1AV01 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S00, rated for motor switching at 4 kW under AC-2 duty at 400 V and 8.5 A under AC-4 at 400 V — the AC-2 figure governs slip-ring motor or moderate-overload applications, while the AC-4 rating covers reversing or inching duty where the contactor makes and breaks stalled-rotor current. Screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept up to 2x 4 mm² stranded, and the 45 mm wide body snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, so it fits standard panel layouts without extra adapters.
DC switching and auxiliary contact capacity
For DC load circuits the contactor carries 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V — the voltage-dependent derating is steep because DC arcs sustain longer than AC, so if you are switching a 24 VDC solenoid bank the full 10 A is available, but at 110 VDC the same contact drops to 1 A. The single instantaneous auxiliary contact (1 NO) is rated for the same DC curve, so plan for a separate auxiliary contact block if the control circuit needs more than one mirror contact.
Coordination and short-circuit protection
Type 2 coordination (no-weld after fault) requires a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A; Type 1 coordination (welding allowed, replace after fault) allows a 35 A gL/gG fuse. The difference matters for uptime — Type 2 keeps the contactor reusable after a downstream short, so specify the 20 A fuse on critical motor branches where a welded contactor would mean a line-down replacement.
Mounting and environmental limits
Snap-on mounting onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, or screw-mount through the base. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with zero spacing, so the 45 mm width per pole is the panel fill factor — six contactors fit in a 270 mm rail segment. Ambient operating range is -25 to +60 °C, with a pollution degree 3 rating (conductive pollution, typical for industrial enclosures without climate control). Maximum operating altitude is 2 000 m without derating.
