What it is and what it does
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1016-1BB41-ZW96 is a size S00 power contactor, part of the SIRIUS family, designed for switching motor loads and resistive/inductive circuits in industrial control panels. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022, either snapped on or screwed, and fits a 45 mm wide slot — standard for a three-pole contactor this size. The coil is rated 24 VDC, pulling 3.3 W for both closing and holding, so the power supply only needs to cover that steady draw — no inrush spike beyond the pickup transient. The contactor switches up to 10 A in AC-12 duty (resistive loads at 24 V), and for motor duty it handles 4.5 kW at 400 V (AC-3) or 5.5 kW at 690 V. In the punishing AC-4 category (plugging, inching), it's rated 8.5 A at 400 V. Mechanical life is typical 30 million cycles, so for a conveyor running once per minute that's about 57 years of continuous operation — the coil and contacts will outlast the panel. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, with a 2000 m altitude limit, covering most indoor industrial environments without derating.
Mounting and wiring
Mounting is screw-and-snap onto 35 mm DIN rail. Side-by-side mounting is allowed, with 6 mm clearance to adjacent devices on either side for heat dissipation. The IP20 finger-safe front means it's protected against accidental contact in an open panel, but it's not sealed — keep it inside an enclosure rated for the environment. Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid or stranded wire. AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), or 1x 12. The 72 mm depth is shallow enough to fit a 100 mm deep enclosure with room for wiring behind the panel. The 57.5 mm height clears standard 80 mm tall DIN-rail enclosures.
Lifecycle and sourcing
The -ZW96 suffix indicates a special version, but the base electrical and mechanical specs match the standard 3RT1016-1BB41.
