What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-1BB42-ZW97 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the compact S00 frame size, designed for switching motor loads and resistive circuits in control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022, fitting into a standard panel layout with a 45 mm width. The 24 VDC coil pulls in at 85% of rated voltage (20.4 V) and drops out at 110% (26.4 V), with a closing and holding power of 3.3 W — a constant DC draw that matters for power supply budgeting on a control transformer or DC bus. Rated for AC-12 duty at 10 A, this contactor handles resistive loads at up to 690 V. For motor switching, it delivers 4 kW in AC-2 at 400 V (part-winding start) and 8.5 A in AC-4 at 400 V (plugging/inching). The AC-3 motor rating hits 4.5 kW at 500 V and 5.5 kW at 690 V, covering common European 400 V and 690 V industrial supplies.
Fit, mounting, and wiring
The S00 frame is a 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm tall, 72 mm deep block — tight enough for high-density panels. Side-by-side mounting is allowed with zero clearance, so you can gang multiple contactors on the rail without spacing. The IP20 front and terminal protection means it's safe for enclosed panels but not for washdown areas. Screw terminals on the main circuit accept solid or stranded copper: 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²). AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), or 1x 12. Strip length and torque follow standard Siemens practice for S00 screw terminals — no special tooling needed. For short-circuit coordination, Type 2 requires a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A; Type 1 allows up to 35 A. Pollution degree 3 means it's rated for conductive environments typical in industrial panels, not clean rooms.
