What it is and where it lands
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1016-1BD41 is a size S00 power contactor built for switching motor loads and resistive loads in control panels. The 24 VDC coil is rated at 10 A for AC-12 duty, meaning it handles general resistive and solid-state loads up to that current without derating. It carries motor power ratings up to 4.5 kW at 500 V and 5.5 kW at 690 V, covering common three-phase induction motors in that frame. The AC-4 rating of 8.5 A at 400 V tells you it can handle plugging and inching duty cycles — frequent starts and reversals — without exceeding thermal limits.
Mounting and integration
Mounts via screw and snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022, which is the standard rail in every European-style panel. Width is 45 mm, so it occupies one standard 45 mm module slot. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with a 6 mm clearance to adjacent devices — no forced spacing gaps, which keeps panel layouts tight. Screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) solid or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) stranded, with a maximum of 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²). That covers typical panel wiring up to 4 mm² without needing lug adapters. The front face is IP20, so finger-safe when installed in an enclosure.
What the ratings mean for the buyer
The 24 VDC coil draws 3.3 W for both closing and holding — that is a DC economized coil, so it does not spike on pickup like an AC coil. The operating temperature range of -25 to +60 °C covers most indoor panel environments and unheated enclosures. Altitude rating to 2 000 m means no derating needed for most installations below that elevation. Mechanical life is typical 30 million operations, so it is rated for high-cycle applications like conveyor or packaging lines. Short-circuit coordination is specified: Type 2 coordination requires a gL/gG 20 A fuse, Type 1 allows up to 35 A. That gives the panel builder a clear fuse size for selectivity without guesswork.
Auxiliary contacts and coil data
One instantaneous auxiliary contact is built in (NO or NC configuration depends on the variant — the base part carries one auxiliary contact block). The coil operates at 0.85 to 1.1 times the rated voltage, so it picks up reliably at 20.4 VDC and holds through 26.4 VDC. Degree of pollution 3 means it is rated for conductive pollution environments typical in industrial panels.
