SIRIUS S00 power contactor for motor and resistive loads
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1016-1BF41 is a size S00 power contactor with a 110 VDC magnet coil, designed for switching motor loads in control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, fitting a 45 mm wide footprint with 72 mm depth and 57.5 mm height — a standard slot for panel layouts where space is tight. The AC-2 rating at 400 V delivers 4 kW, making it suited for slip-ring motor starting where moderate inrush is expected. For reversing or plugging duty, the AC-4 rating at 400 V is 8.5 A — the figure that governs contactor life under frequent reversals. Resistive loads up to 10 A AC-12 are within range, so it handles heater banks or ballast loads without derating. The DC coil draws 3.3 W during closing and holding, a constant-power design that simplifies power supply sizing — no AC hum, no separate holding-economy circuit needed. Rated operating temperature spans -25 to +60 °C, with IP20 protection on the front and terminals, suitable for enclosed panel environments with pollution degree 3.
Wiring and coordination
Screw terminals accept solid or stranded conductors: 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) per clamp, with AWG equivalents 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), and 1x 12. This range covers most panel wiring from signal-level to motor-circuit branch feeds. For short-circuit coordination, Type 2 (no damage to contactor) requires a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A; Type 1 (contactor may need replacement after fault) allows a 35 A fuse. Side-by-side mounting is permitted without derating, saving rail space when grouping multiple contactors. One instantaneous auxiliary contact is built in (1 NO or 1 NC depending on variant wiring), providing feedback for PLC interlocks or status indication. Mechanical life is typical 30 million operations — a figure that assumes dry switching; actual life under load depends on the duty class and switching frequency.
