What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-1KF42 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S00, designed for switching motor loads in control panels. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022 via screw or snap-on fixing, and uses screw-type terminals for the main current circuit. Rated for 4.5 kW at 500 V and 5.5 kW at 690 V, this contactor handles induction motor switching in AC-2 and AC-4 duty classes — the AC-4 rating of 8.5 A at 400 V tells you it can manage frequent inching or plugging without derating the thermal capacity. The built-in varistor surge suppressor clamps coil transients at DC holding power of 2.3 W, which keeps the control circuit clean and reduces EMI radiated back into the panel wiring.
Mounting and integration
The 45 mm wide body with 57.5 mm height and 72 mm depth fits standard DIN-rail enclosures. Side-by-side mounting is permitted, with 6 mm clearance at the side for heat dissipation. Terminals accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid/stranded conductors, with AWG equivalents 2x (20–16), 2x (18–14), 1x 12 for the main contacts. Front-face protection is IP20, so it's safe for finger contact in a closed panel but not for wet or dusty environments.
Environmental and coordination
Operates from -25 °C to +60 °C, with pollution degree 3 rating — suitable for industrial atmospheres with conductive dust or occasional condensation. For Type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor under short circuit), use a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A. For Type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after fault), a 35 A fuse is allowed. Maximum operating altitude is 2 000 m without derating.
Lifecycle and sourcing
Sourcing is straightforward: quoted to order against an RFQ. No second-source cross-reference is officially declared, but the SIRIUS S00 platform is widely stocked.
