What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-1TP02 is a SIRIUS-brand power contactor in the size S00 frame, rated for switching motor loads and resistive circuits in control panels. It carries a 24 VDC coil and is fitted with a built-in varistor surge suppressor, so you don't need to add an external snubber for that coil. The main circuit uses screw-type terminals, which is the standard for panel builders who prefer a proven termination over spring-cage.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
The AC-4 rating at 400 V is 8.5 A — that's the switching capacity for reversing or inching duty where the contactor makes and breaks motor current under load. For type 2 coordination (no-weld after a short circuit), the required upstream fuse is gL/gG 20 A. The 24 VDC coil draws 10 A at rated voltage, so size your control transformer and fuse accordingly. The contactor is rated for operation at altitudes up to 2,000 m without derating, and the operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C. Mounting is screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The width is 45 mm and depth is 72 mm, so it occupies a single 45 mm slot on the rail. Side-by-side mounting is permitted, with a minimum 6 mm spacing to the side of adjacent devices for heat dissipation. The front face is rated IP20, meaning finger-safe but not protected against moisture ingress.
Where it's used
This class of contactor is used in motor control centers, pump panels, conveyor drives, and general switching of resistive or inductive loads up to 5.5 kW at 690 V (AC-3 duty). The S00 frame is the smallest in the SIRIUS contactor family, suited for compact panels where space is tight but you still need a full-rated industrial contactor with screw terminals.
