What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-1WB41 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the compact S00 frame size, designed for switching motor loads in industrial control panels. It carries a 24 VDC coil and is rated for 4.5 kW at 400 V in AC-3 duty, meaning it handles the inductive load of a standard three-phase motor up to that power. At 690 V the motor rating reaches 5.5 kW, so the same contactor can serve higher-voltage machines without upsizing the frame. The coil draws 1.4 W both on pick-up and hold, so the control transformer or DC supply sees a steady load — no inrush spike to size around. A built-in varistor suppresses the inductive kick from the coil, which simplifies panel wiring by eliminating the need for an external suppression diode or RC snubber across the coil terminals.
Mounting and integration
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The S00 footprint is 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm tall, and 72 mm deep — a space-saving profile that leaves room for auxiliary contact blocks or an overload relay on the same rail. Side-by-side mounting is permitted without derating, so you can gang multiple contactors in a motor control centre without leaving air gaps. Screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or up to 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid or stranded copper. The front face carries an IP20 rating, so the contactor is touch-safe for panel installation; the terminal area itself is also IP20, meaning no additional finger-duct covers are needed for the wiring zone.
Lifecycle and sourcing
As an active catalogue item, it is sourced to order against an RFQ.
