What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-2BB41-ZX95 is a SIRIUS power contactor in frame size S00, designed for switching motor loads in industrial control panels. It uses a 24 VDC coil and spring-loaded terminals for the main circuit, which simplifies wiring and reduces maintenance compared to screw terminals. Rated for AC-2 duty at 4 kW on 400 V, it handles slip-ring motor starting and stopping. For AC-4 duty — plugging and inching — it carries 8.5 A at 400 V. The coil draws 3.3 W DC both to close and hold, so there is no inrush spike to size a power supply around. Mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The 45 mm width and 73 mm depth fit standard panel layouts; side-by-side mounting is allowed with 6 mm spacing to adjacent devices.
Coordination and protection
For type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor after a short circuit), the required upstream fuse is 20 A gL/gG. For type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after a fault), use a 35 A gL/gG fuse. This lets a panel builder size the branch protection to match the desired level of post-fault uptime. The spring-loaded terminals accept 2x (0.25 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire, or 2x (24 to 14 AWG). Strip length and ferrule use follow standard practice for this terminal type.
Lifecycle and sourcing reality
The IP20 rating on the front and terminals means it is protected against solid objects larger than 12 mm (fingers, tools) but not against moisture ingress. It is intended for installation inside a panel that provides the overall enclosure rating.
Deployment context
Snap it onto a 35 mm DIN rail inside a control cabinet. The 45 mm width leaves room for a motor circuit breaker or overload relay alongside. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, with altitude limited to 2 000 m without derating. The auxiliary contact block is a single instantaneous contact (1 NO or 1 NC depending on configuration). For feedback to a PLC or safety relay, plan for that one signal per contactor.
