What this SIRIUS S00 contactor is and where it fits
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1016-2BB44 is a size S00 power contactor built for switching motor loads and resistive circuits in control panels. It lands on a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022 using either screw-fixed or snap-on mounting, so it fits standard panel layouts without extra bracketry. The 24 V DC coil pulls 3.3 W on pickup and holds at the same 3.3 W — steady-state dissipation that stays manageable inside a crowded enclosure.
Ratings that decide the fit
The main contact path is rated 10 A at 24 V AC-12 (resistive), and for motor duty at 400 V it handles 4 kW in AC-2 (slip-ring motors) and 8.5 A in AC-4 (plugging/inching). Across higher voltages, the motor power ratings climb to 4.5 kW at 500 V and 5.5 kW at 690 V — so this one contactor covers 400 V through 690 V three-phase motor circuits within its thermal current envelope. The auxiliary contact block carries 2 instantaneous contacts, wired via the same spring-loaded terminal system as the main circuit.
Wiring and coordination
Spring-loaded terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.25 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded copper, or 2x (24 to 14 AWG). For type 2 coordination (no weld after a short circuit) the required upstream fuse is a 20 A gL/gG; type 1 coordination allows a 35 A gL/gG. The contactor is rated for side-by-side mounting with zero gap, keeping rail space tight — the body is 45 mm wide, 60 mm tall, and 114 mm deep.
Environmental limits and approvals
Operating temperature spans -25 to +60 °C, with a maximum operating altitude of 2 000 m and pollution degree 3 (conductive pollution, typical for industrial panels). The enclosure carries IP20 on the front and at the terminals — finger-safe but not washdown-rated, so it lives inside a sealed cabinet, not on the machine frame. Coil pickup is guaranteed at 85 % of rated voltage (20.4 V DC) and dropout below the holding threshold.
