Integrator's Sizing Note
The Siemens 3RT1016-2GG24 is a SIRIUS power contactor in frame size S00, rated for 4 kW at AC-2 duty on a 400 V line — that's the motor-switching curve for slip-ring rotors or moderate inrush loads. The AC-4 rating of 8.5 A at 400 V covers plugging and inching duty where the contactor breaks full motor current. Both main and auxiliary circuits terminate through spring-loaded terminals, so no screwdriver torque check after commissioning.
Mounting and Panel Fit
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The 45 mm width and 60 mm height fit a standard S00 footprint; the 114 mm depth leaves clearance for the spring-cage terminals and the integrated full-wave rectifier surge suppressor. Side-by-side mounting is permitted without derating, which keeps the rail fill factor tight.
Coordination and Protection
For Type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor under short circuit), the required upstream fuse is gL/gG 20 A. Type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after fault) allows a 35 A gL/gG fuse. The contactor is rated for pollution degree 3, so it's suited for control panels in industrial environments without climate control.
