What the 3RT1016-2JC42 is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1016-2JC42 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the compact S00 frame, built for switching motor and resistive loads in control panels. It carries a 24 VDC coil with an integrated diode surge suppressor, so the coil drop-out is clean and you don't need an external flyback diode on the DC supply. Rated for 10 A at 24 V, it handles the typical 24 VDC control circuit loads you find in a modern panel — think PLC outputs, solenoid valves, or small DC motor contactors.
Mounting and wiring — panel fit
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The S00 frame is 45 mm wide and 73 mm deep, so it fits a standard DIN-rail footprint without crowding adjacent devices. Spring-loaded terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.25 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded, or 2x (24 to 14 AWG) — no screwdriver torque check needed, just strip 8 mm and push in. Side-by-side mounting is allowed, so you can gang them tight on the rail.
Ratings and what they mean for the buyer
The AC-12 rating at 10 A is the resistive-load maximum — use that for general-purpose switching. For motor duty, the AC-2 rating at 400 V gives you 4 kW, and AC-4 at 400 V gives 8.5 A for reversing or inching. The DC switching ratings cover your control circuits: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.3 A at 220 V. That 10 A at 24 VDC is the one you'll lean on for most PLC-output loads. Type 2 coordination requires a 20 A gL/gG fuse upstream; Type 1 needs 35 A. The degree of pollution is 3, so it's suited for industrial environments with conductive dust or moisture — not clean-room, but fine for a typical panel in a factory or pump house.
