Integrator's note
The Siemens 3RT1016-2VB42 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S00, with a 24 VDC coil and spring-loaded terminals for the main circuit. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022 and measures 45 mm wide, 60 mm tall, and 73 mm deep — a compact footprint that leaves room for auxiliary blocks or an overload relay on the same rail. The coil draws 1.4 W both on pick-up and hold, so the control transformer can be sized tightly; pick-up threshold is 0.85 (20.4 V) and drop-out is 1.85 (44.4 V) — meaning it will hold in on a sagging 24 V bus but drop cleanly if the supply collapses. Pollution degree 3 rating suits it for industrial panels where conductive dust or condensation is a risk.
Motor duty and auxiliary contacts
Rated motor power in AC-3 duty: 4.5 kW at 500 V and 5.5 kW at 690 V. For the less common AC-2 duty (slip-ring motors, soft-start bypass) it delivers 4 kW at 400 V. In AC-4 (plugging, inching) it handles 8.5 A at 400 V. The built-in surge suppressor uses a diode across the coil — polarity-sensitive, so verify DC supply orientation before wiring. Auxiliary contact ratings are given across multiple voltages: 10 A at 24 V, 6 A at 230 V, 3 A at 400 V, 0.3 A at 220 V — enough for a PLC input or a small pilot light. Mechanical life is 30 million operations; electrical life depends on the load and switching frequency.
Mounting and wiring
Mounts by screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail. Side-by-side mounting is allowed with zero spacing — the 45 mm width per pole means a three-contactor group fits in 135 mm of rail. Spring-loaded terminals accept 2x (0.25 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded, or 2x (24 to 14 AWG). Strip length is not given in the listing, but standard for spring-cage is 8-10 mm. IP20 on the front and on the terminals — fine for a closed panel, not for washdown. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; maximum operating altitude is 2000 m without derating.
