The Siemens 3RT1017-1AD02-1AA0 is a SIRIUS S00 power contactor — the smallest frame in the SIRIUS family, sized for motor loads up to 5.5 kW at 500 V in AC-3 duty and rated 8.5 A in AC-4 for reversing or plugging service. The S00 footprint — 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm tall, 72 mm deep — fits tightly on a DIN rail; six millimeters of side clearance is all it needs between units.
The 8.5 A AC-4 figure matters if the contactor sees inching, jogging, or plug-reverse duty, where the contacts break full motor current at standstill. For resistive or fan loads, the AC-12 maximum operating current is 10 A. The coil draws 0.8 to 1.1 A at 50 Hz and 0.85 to 1.1 A at 60 Hz — a standard 24 V control transformer handles that without oversizing. Type 1 coordination requires a 35 A gL/gG fuse upstream; Type 2 coordination needs a 20 A gL/gG fuse. That's the fuse size a maintenance tech writes into the panel schedule, not a guess.
Terminal and environmental fit
Main circuit terminals accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or up to 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid or stranded copper — covers the wire sizes typical for a 5.5 kW motor circuit. AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), and 1x 12. Front and terminal protection is IP20 — finger-safe for a panel environment but not rated for washdown.
