What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1017-1AH02-ZX95 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S00, designed for switching motor loads in control panels and industrial machinery. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, fitting the standard panel footprint at 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm tall, and 72 mm deep. Rated for AC-3 duty at 5.5 kW on both 500 V and 690 V supplies, this contactor handles the inrush of squirrel-cage motors up to that load — the 690 V rating is what matters for 400/690 V delta-start or IT-grid installations. The AC-4 rating of 8.5 A at 400 V covers reversing or inching applications where the contactor breaks full motor current. The contactor carries a mechanical life of 30,000,000 operations typical, with pollution degree 3 rated for conductive environments typical of industrial enclosures. Operating temperature spans -25 °C to +60 °C, and altitude is limited to 2,000 m without derating.
Integration and wiring
Main circuit wiring uses screw-type terminals accepting 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid or stranded conductors — AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), and 1x 12. The front face and terminals carry IP20 finger-safe protection, so the contactor can sit on an open panel door during commissioning without shock risk. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with zero side clearance, which saves rail space in dense panels. The 6 mm clearance noted is for the arc chamber — not between units when ganged. For short-circuit coordination, type 1 requires a 35 A gL/gG fuse upstream; type 2 coordination drops to a 20 A gL/gG fuse to limit let-through energy and preserve the contactor after a fault.
Auxiliary contact ratings
The integrated auxiliary contacts are rated 10 A at 24 V, 6 A at 230 V, and 3 A at 400 V — enough for PLC inputs or small relay coils in the control circuit. The AC-12 rating of 10 A covers resistive loads like heater contactors or signal lamps.
