What it is and where it fits
The Siemens 3RT1017-1AM22 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the size S00 frame — the smallest footprint in the SIRIUS family, at 45 mm wide by 57.5 mm tall by 72 mm deep. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail (EN 50022) via screw and snap-on, which means it drops into a standard control-panel rail without extra brackets. The 24 VDC coil draws 10 A at rated voltage, so it's a direct fit for most PLC digital outputs and 24 V control buses.
Ratings that decide the fit
The AC-2 rating at 400 V is 5.5 kW — that's the motor-switching capacity for slip-ring motors or other loads where the contactor sees moderate inrush. For heavy plugging or reversing duty (AC-4), the rated current is 8.5 A at 400 V. The AC-12 rating (control-circuit loads) goes to 10 A. These numbers tell you this contactor is sized for small motors, transformers, or resistive loads up to about 5.5 kW at 400 V three-phase. For the DC switching side, the contactor handles 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V. That covers solenoid valves, small DC motors, and signal switching within a 24 VDC control loop.
Coordination and protection
Type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor after a short-circuit fault) requires a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A. Type 1 coordination (the contactor may need replacement but the system is safe) allows a 35 A gL/gG fuse. Use the Type 2 value if the panel needs to survive a fault without unplanned downtime — the 20 A fuse limits let-through energy to protect the contactor.
Environmental and mounting constraints
Rated for pollution degree 3 (industrial environments with conductive or dry non-conductive pollution). Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, with a maximum altitude of 2000 m. Side-by-side mounting is allowed (no derating needed for adjacent units). Front and terminal protection is IP20 — finger-safe for the panel but not washdown-rated.
