The Siemens 3RT1017-1AN11 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the Size S00 frame — the smallest footprint in the series, at 45 mm wide and 72 mm deep. It carries three normally-open main contacts and zero NC mains, so it is wired as a dedicated make-switch for a single load, not a reversing or star-delta pair. Rated for 5.5 kW in AC-2 duty at 400 V — that is the slip-ring motor category, where starting current is moderate and the contactor sees inrush during acceleration. For the harder AC-4 plugging/reversing duty at the same voltage, it is rated 8.5 A, which is the figure that governs frequent jogging or inching applications. The 10 A rating at 24 V rated value covers the resistive or lightly inductive load on the main poles at control voltage — useful when the contactor is switching heater banks or DC supplies in a panel.
Mounting and Integration
Snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, or can be screw-mounted. Terminals are screw-type for both main and auxiliary circuits. Front and terminal faces are IP20, so the contactor is protected against finger contact but not against dust ingress — it belongs inside a closed panel, not on an open machine frame.

Pollution degree 3 means it tolerates conductive dust and condensation typical of industrial floors — no special coating needed for dry factory air. Short-circuit coordination requires a gL/gG fuse: 20 A for Type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor after a fault) or 35 A for Type 1 (contactor may need replacement but the circuit clears). These values are for the main circuit; the auxiliary contacts follow their own fuse sizing.
