What it is and where it fits
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1017-1AN22 is a power contactor in the S00 frame size, designed for switching loads in control panels and motor control centers. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, either snapped on or screwed down, and uses screw-type terminals for the main circuit. Rated for AC-1 duty at 10 A, it handles resistive loads up to that current. For motor switching, the AC-4 rating at 400 V is 8.5 A, which covers smaller induction motors — think fractional-horsepower pumps, fans, or conveyors in a typical 400 V line. The coil is 24 VDC, a common control voltage in modern PLC-driven panels. Operating ambient range is -25 to +60 °C, with a maximum altitude of 2 000 m, so it works in most indoor industrial environments without derating.
Integration and wiring
Dimensions are 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm high, and 72 mm deep — a compact footprint that leaves room for auxiliaries on the DIN rail. The S00 frame accepts up to 4 mm² stranded wire (max 2x 4 mm²) on the main terminals, which is adequate for the rated currents. Side-by-side mounting is allowed with a 6 mm gap to the side, and the front face carries IP20 protection — safe for finger contact inside an enclosed panel. Pollution degree 3 means it tolerates conductive dust typical of factory floors. For short-circuit protection, a gL/gG fuse of 20 A is required for Type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor), and 35 A for Type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after fault). This matters when sizing the upstream protective device in a motor branch circuit.
