The Siemens 3RT1017-1AP01-ZW95 is a SIRIUS S00 power contactor rated for 5.5 kW motor switching at 400 V in AC-2 duty, and 8.5 A in AC-4 reversing duty. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022 and occupies a 45 mm width, making it a direct fit for standard control-panel layouts where panel density matters.
Ratings and what they mean for fit
The AC-2 rating of 5.5 kW at 400 V means this contactor is sized for slip-ring motor loads where starting current is moderate — typical for crane drives, hoists, or conveyor systems that cycle under load. The AC-4 rating of 8.5 A at 400 V covers plugging and inching duty, so it handles the higher thermal stress of frequent reversals without derating prematurely. Type 2 coordination is achieved with a 20 A gL/gG fuse, which limits fault energy to keep the contactor repairable after a short circuit — important for panels where downtime for replacement is unacceptable. Type 1 coordination allows a 35 A fuse, accepting that the contactor may be destroyed but the circuit is cleared. The coil draws 10 A at 24 V rated value, so verify your control transformer sizing — a single contactor is fine, but a bank of them on one 24 V supply may need a larger transformer or separate control circuit.
Mounting and integration
Screw and snap-on mounting onto 35 mm standard mounting rail according to DIN EN 50022. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with 6 mm spacing, so you can pack multiple contactors in a row without derating for heat buildup. The S00 frame size keeps the footprint compact at 45 x 57.5 x 72 mm. Screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) solid/stranded. AWG equivalents are 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), and 1x 12. The IP20 protection on the front and terminals means it's suitable for enclosed panels but not for washdown areas.
