SIRIUS Size S00 Power Contactor
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1017-1AS02 is a Size S00 power contactor, rated for 5.5 kW at both 500 V and 690 V AC, making it a fit for motor loads up to that power in 400 V and 690 V networks. Its AC-4 switching current at 400 V is 8.5 A, which covers the demanding reversing and inching duty cycles typical of conveyors and hoists. Front and terminal protection is IP20, meaning it is touch-safe for panel installation but not rated for washdown environments.
The 5.5 kW rating at 690 V AC-3 tells you this contactor can switch a standard three-phase motor of that power in a 690 V system — common in heavy industrial and mining installations where 690 V distribution reduces cable size. AC-4 duty generates more arc energy than AC-3, so the lower current limit protects the contacts. For resistive loads, the AC-12 maximum operating current is 10 A, which covers heater banks and lighting contactor applications. The auxiliary contact ratings span 24 V to 230 V AC/DC: 10 A at 24 V, 6 A at 230 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V DC — enough for PLC-level control signals but derate significantly on DC inductive loads.
Coordination and Wiring
Type 2 coordination (no weld under fault) requires a gL/gG fuse of 20 A; Type 1 coordination (welding allowed) permits a 35 A fuse. Screw terminals accept 2x (0.5–1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75–2.5 mm²), or max. 2x (0.75–4 mm²) solid/stranded, and AWG equivalents 2x (20–16), 2x (18–14), 1x 12. That covers standard control wiring up to 4 mm² without lug adapters.
