What it is and where it lands
The Siemens 3RT1017-1AT62 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the compact S00 frame — three NO main contacts, zero NC, with a 24 VDC coil pulling 10 A at rated voltage. It's a current-production part, so no lifecycle scramble; this is what you spec into a new panel or drop in as a line-down spare for an existing S00 footprint. Mounting is screw-and-snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, and side-by-side mounting is supported — so you can gang several in a row without derating for heat stacking, as long as you respect the coordination fuse limits. The IP20 rating on the front and terminals means it's protected against finger contact but not moisture — this belongs inside a panel, not in a washdown zone.
Motor duty and coordination — the real selection numbers
For motor switching, the AC-2 rating at 400 V is 5.5 kW — that's the figure for slip-ring motor duty, where the contactor makes and breaks under load. For AC-4 (plugging/reversing/inching) at 400 V, the rated operational current is 8.5 A. These are the numbers that govern contact life, not the 10 A AC-12 resistive rating. Type 1 coordination requires a 35 A gL/gG fuse; type 2 coordination needs a 20 A gL/gG fuse. If you're coordinating with a motor starter or overload relay, the 20 A type 2 limit is the one that keeps the contactor re-usable after a fault. Pollution degree 3 means it's rated for industrial environments where conductive pollution can occur — standard for most control panels, but worth noting if the panel is in a clean room or conditioned space (deg 2 would suffice there).
Termination and wiring
Both main and auxiliary/control circuits use screw-type terminals. The main contacts accept 2x (0.5...1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75...2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75...4 mm²) solid or stranded — same ranges for the auxiliary contacts. AWG equivalents are 2x (20...16), 2x (18...14), and 1x 12. The 72 mm depth, 45 mm width, and 57.5 mm height fit a shallow backpanel.
Environmental and compliance
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C during operation, which covers most indoor panel environments. Storage temperature exceeds that range — the handling limit, not the running limit. RoHS compliance date is 01.07.2006, so it meets the original EU RoHS directive. The reference code per IEC 81346-2 is Q (switching device). Mechanical life is 30 million operations typical — that's the no-load endurance. Electrical life depends on the switching category and current; at AC-2 5.5 kW you'll get a fraction of that, but still well into the millions for most conveyor or pump cycling rates.
