Part identity and lifecycle
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1017-1HB42-ZX95 is a Size S00 power contactor with a 24 V DC magnet coil, rated for switching motor loads in control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022, fitting into standard enclosure layouts.
Key ratings and what they mean for fit
The AC-2 rating at 400 V is 5.5 kW, which covers slip-ring motor duty for conveyors or hoists where starting current is moderate. The AC-4 rating at 400 V is 8.5 A, covering reversing or inching applications with frequent starts — the lower current reflects the higher switching stress of plugging duty. Maximum operating current in AC-12 (control-circuit resistive loads) is 10 A, so it can switch a bank of contactor coils or solenoids within that limit. The 24 V DC coil draws 2.3 W closing and holding — a constant power draw that simplifies DC supply sizing compared to AC coils with holding-economy circuits. Short-circuit coordination is specified: Type 2 coordination requires a 20 A gL/gG fuse; Type 1 allows a 35 A gL/gG fuse. This matters when the contactor sits downstream of a branch circuit protector — the fuse size determines whether the contactor survives a fault or needs replacement.
Mounting and integration
The 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm high, 72 mm deep footprint fits the S00 frame standard. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with 6 mm spacing to adjacent devices, so multiple contactors pack tightly on a DIN rail without derating. Screw terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) solid, 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) — covering standard control wiring up to 4 mm² for motor feeders. The IP20 front and terminal protection means it is safe for finger contact inside a locked panel, but not for washdown environments. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, with no derating needed for most indoor panel environments. Altitude limit is 2 000 m; above that, dielectric withstand and cooling derate per IEC 60947.
