SIRIUS S00 power contactor with 42 VDC coil
The Siemens 3RT1017-2BD42 is a SIRIUS S00 power contactor with a 42 V DC magnet coil, spring-loaded terminals on the main circuit, and a compact 45 mm width that snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. Rated for AC-3 duty at 5.5 kW on 400 V and 690 V supplies, and delivers 10 A in AC-12 resistive loads — the AC-3 figure governs motor switching; the AC-12 number applies to resistive or lightly inductive circuits. The DC coil draws 3.3 W both on pickup and hold, so the control transformer or power supply must sustain that continuous draw without droop.
Switching ratings by voltage and duty
AC-3 motor switching: 5.5 kW at 400 V and 690 V; AC-4 (plugging/reversing) rated 8.5 A at 400 V. DC switching capacity varies by voltage: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.3 A at 220 V. AC-1 resistive load max is 20 A at 230 V, 6 A at 400 V, 3 A at 500 V — useful for heater banks or lighting contactor duty where inrush is low.
Coordination and protection
Type 1 coordination requires a 35 A gL/gG fuse; Type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor under fault) needs a 20 A gL/gG fuse. The spring terminals accept 2x 0.25–2.5 mm² solid or stranded, or 2x 24–14 AWG. IP20 on the front and at the terminals means finger-safe for panel installation — no additional shrouding needed inside an IP54 enclosure. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with 6 mm spacing at the side; operating temperature range -25 to +60 °C, altitude up to 2000 m without derating.
Lifecycle and compliance
The reference code per DIN EN 81346-2 is Q (power switching device). Pollution degree 3 allows use in industrial environments with conductive pollution.
