Integrator note — 3RT1017-5BB42
The Siemens 3RT1017-5BB42 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S00, rated for 5.5 kW at 400 V AC-2 and 8.5 A at 400 V AC-4. The 24 V DC coil draws 3.3 W closing and holding, so the control transformer sizing is straightforward — no inrush spike to budget for. Three NO main contacts, three poles, IP20 on the front face. Mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022.
DIN-rail fit and panel clearance
Width 45 mm, height 60 mm, depth 73 mm. Side-by-side mounting is permitted without derating in standard 35 mm DIN-rail enclosures. The 6 mm clearance to adjacent devices at the side is the minimum air gap — no extra spacer needed for a standard panel layout. Pollution degree 3 rated, so it handles conductive dust environments typical of industrial control cabinets.
Coordination and protection
For type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor on fault), use gL/gG fuses rated 20 A. For type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after fault), 35 A gL/gG fuses apply. The AC-12 operating current max is 10 A — that's the resistive load ceiling for the main circuit.
