What ships in the carton
The Siemens 3RT1023-1AP00-ZW96 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S0, built for switching motor loads in control panels. It comes as a bare contactor with three normally-open main contacts (3 NO) and screw-type terminals on the main circuit. No auxiliary contact blocks are included — the kit carries zero instantaneous auxiliary contacts and zero NC main contacts, so if your circuit needs a mirror contact or a feedback signal, that block is ordered separately. Mounting is screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022. The 45 mm width and 85 mm height fit a standard S0 footprint; depth is 91 mm. Side-by-side mounting is allowed, with a 6 mm clearance to adjacent devices on the side.
Ratings that decide the fit
The AC-3 motor rating is 5.5 kW at 690 V and 4.5 kW at 500 V — that's the figure that governs motor switching on a 690 V line. At 400 V AC-3 the rating is implied by the 4.5 kW at 500 V and 5.5 kW at 690 V; the AC-4 rating at 400 V is explicitly 8.5 A, which covers reversing or inching duty where the contactor makes and breaks stalled-rotor current. For resistive loads (AC-1), the contactor is rated 10 A at 24 V, 6 A at 230 V, and 3 A at 400 V. The AC-2 rating at 400 V is 4 kW, covering slip-ring motor duty. The AC-12 maximum operating current is 10 A, which applies to control-circuit loads like PLC outputs or relay coils. Short-circuit protection depends on coordination type: Type 1 coordination requires a gL/gG fuse rated 63 A; Type 2 coordination requires 25 A. Pollution degree 3 (conductive pollution) means the contactor is rated for industrial environments where occasional condensation occurs. The front face is IP20 (finger-safe), but the terminal area is IP00 — live parts are exposed, so the panel enclosure provides the final protection. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, with a maximum operating altitude of 2000 m. The contactor is rated for 50 Hz; the operating factor at 50 Hz is 0.8 to 1.1. Mechanical endurance is 10 million cycles typical.
Terminal wiring — what fits
Main-circuit screw terminals accept solid conductors: 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²). Stranded conductors: 2x (1 to 2.5 mm²), 2x (2.5 to 6 mm²), max 2x 10 mm². AWG equivalents: 2x (16 to 12), 2x (14 to 10), 1x 8. Strip length and torque values are per the terminal marking on the contactor.
