What it is and what it carries
The Siemens 3RT1024-1AR64 is a SIRIUS S0-frame power contactor rated for motor switching at 7.5 kW in AC-2 duty at 400 V, and 12.5 A in AC-4 at the same voltage. That AC-2 rating covers wound-rotor motors and slip-ring applications where the load current stays fairly steady during make and break; AC-4 covers reversing and inching duty where the contactor makes and breaks stalled-rotor current. The AC-12 maximum operating current of 10 A tells you the auxiliary circuit capacity for resistive loads like control transformers or indicator lamps. The S0 frame keeps the width to 45 mm — three contactors fit a 135 mm DIN section, which matters when you're packing multiple motor starts into a standard 600 mm enclosure. Mounting is screw or snap-on onto 35 mm rail per DIN EN 50022, so it drops into any IEC panel without adapter plates. Termination is screw-type on the main circuit, accepting 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) solid, 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) stranded, or up to 2x 4 mm² max. The auxiliary contact block (2 N/O instantaneous) shares the same terminal family — no mixed tooling needed on the wireman's bench.
Coordination and protection
Type 1 coordination requires a 63 A gL/gG fuse upstream; Type 2 coordination (the stricter one that keeps the contactor usable after a fault) needs a 25 A gL/gG fuse. That 25 A limit is the one to spec into the BOM if the panel must survive a short circuit without replacing the contactor — common for production lines where downtime for parts swap costs more than the fuse. Pollution degree 3 means the contactor is rated for industrial environments where conductive dust or condensation can occur — no need for conformal coating or sealed enclosures in a typical motor control center.
Environmental limits
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C during operation, with a maximum operating altitude of 2 000 m. The IP20 front (finger-safe) and IP00 terminal area mean it's designed for enclosed panel mounting — not for washdown or outdoor exposure without a cabinet.
