What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1024-3AP60 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the Size S0 frame, designed for switching three-phase motors and resistive loads in industrial control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, occupying a 45 mm width. The contactor is rated for AC-3 duty at 7.5 kW on both 500 V and 690 V supplies, at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz. For the commissioning engineer, the AC-4 rating of 12.5 A at 400 V defines the inching or plugging capability — the current it can break during high-stress reversing or jogging cycles, not just steady-state running.
Mounting and integration
The 45 mm width and 85 mm height fit standard S0 panel layouts. Side-by-side mounting is permitted with a 6 mm clearance at the side for heat dissipation. The front face carries IP20 protection; the terminal area is IP00, meaning the panel builder must maintain separation from live parts during maintenance. Screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.25 to 2.5 mm²) solid or 2x (1 to 2.5 mm²) stranded, with a maximum of 2x 10 mm² or 1x 8 AWG. For the wireman, that means no ferrule crimping is required for the smaller conductors, but the larger 10 mm² termination needs careful torque control.
Environmental and operating limits
Operating temperature spans -25 °C to +60 °C during operation, with a pollution degree of 3 (industrial environment, conductive pollution). Maximum operating altitude is 2 000 m without derating. The mechanical endurance is rated at 10 million operating cycles typical. For the field service tech, the coil operates on a 0.8 to 1.1 times the rated voltage at both 50 Hz and 60 Hz, ensuring pickup across typical line fluctuations.
