What it is and where it fits
The Siemens 3RT1026-1AM20 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S0 frame size, designed for switching motor loads in control panels. It mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm standard mounting rail per DIN EN 50022, so it integrates directly into a DIN-rail enclosure with no adapter plate needed. Rated for 11 kW at 400 V in AC-2 duty (slip-ring motor starting) and 15.5 A in AC-4 duty (plugging/inching), this contactor handles the heavy switching cycles found in conveyor, hoist, and pump applications. The AC-4 current rating is the one that governs real reversing or jogging duty — the 15.5 A figure is what you size the overload relay to.
Ratings that decide the fit
The coil operating range spans 0.8 to 1.1 times the rated voltage at 50 Hz and 0.85 to 1.1 at 60 Hz, meaning the contactor holds in during brownout conditions down to about 80 % of nominal. That matters for lines fed from weak grids or long cable runs. Ambient temperature range is -25 to +60 °C during operation, with a maximum operating altitude of 2 000 m. Pollution degree 3 (conductive pollution) means it is suited for industrial environments where occasional condensation or light dust is present — no need for a sealed cabinet in most factory-floor settings. Mechanical life is 10 million operations typical, so for a line cycling once per minute that is roughly 19 years of continuous service before the contactor wears out mechanically. Electrical life depends on the load current and duty cycle, but the mechanical endurance gives a ceiling for maintenance planning.
Termination and wiring
Main current circuit uses screw-type terminals. Solid wire accepted: 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²). Stranded: 2x (1 to 2.5 mm²), 2x (2.5 to 6 mm²), max 2x 10 mm². AWG equivalents: 2x (16 to 12), 2x (14 to 10), 1x 8. That covers most panel wiring up to 6 mm² without needing ferrule adapters. Front protection is IP20 (finger-safe), terminal area is IP00 (no finger protection at the connection point). Side clearance of 6 mm is required for heat dissipation when mounting side-by-side — the contactor supports side-by-side mounting, so you can pack multiple units on the rail without extra spacing, but keep that 6 mm gap to adjacent components.
