What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1034-1AL20-ZW96 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S2, used to switch motor loads in control panels and machinery. It is rated for 18.5 kW at 500 V and 10 kW at 690 V, with an AC-3 switching rate of up to 1,000 operations per hour. The contactor handles a 15 kW motor in AC-2 duty at 400 V. These ratings mean it is sized for medium-horsepower induction motors — think pumps, fans, and compressors on a 400 V or 480 V line.
Mounting and wiring
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022. The 55 mm width and 112 mm height fit standard panel layouts; side-by-side mounting is supported, so you can gang multiple contactors without extra spacing. Screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept solid wire from 0.5 mm² up to 4 mm² (two conductors per clamp) and stranded wire up to 25 mm². The front is IP20 rated; the terminal area is IP00 — standard for enclosed panel installation. Pollution degree 3 means it tolerates conductive dust in industrial environments.

Operates from -25 °C to +60 °C and stores from -55 °C to +80 °C. Coil operates at 50/60 Hz with a voltage tolerance of 0.8 to 1.1 times rated (50 Hz) and 0.85 to 1.1 times rated (60 Hz). Operating time is 7 to 20 ms AC; arcing time is 10 to 15 ms. Mechanical life is 10 million cycles typical. The 24 V DC auxiliary rating is 10 A; at 230 V AC it is 6 A.
