SIRIUS S2 power contactor — what it does and where it fits
The Siemens 3RT1034-3AP00-1AA0 is a SIRIUS-branded power contactor in the Size S2 frame, designed for switching motor loads in industrial control panels. It mounts on a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022 using the combined screw-and-snap-on fastening method, and its screw-type main current circuit terminals accept solid conductors up to 2x 2.5 mm² or stranded up to 2x 25 mm². The key motor ratings: 15 kW at 400 V in AC-2 duty (slip-ring motor starting), 18.5 kW at 500 V in AC-3 duty (squirrel-cage motor starting/running), and 29 A at 400 V in AC-4 duty (plugging/inching). These are the numbers that decide whether the contactor fits a given motor nameplate — AC-3 is the most common general-purpose motor switching category, while AC-4 covers the higher stress of reversing or jogging applications.
Mounting and environmental constraints
Panel integration is straightforward: the 55 mm wide, 112 mm high, 115 mm deep footprint fits standard S2 cutouts on a 35 mm DIN rail. Side-by-side mounting is permitted, so multiple contactors can pack tightly in a row. The front face carries IP20 protection (finger-safe), while the terminal area is IP00 — ensure the panel enclosure provides the overall ingress protection. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C; storage range extends to -55 to +80 °C. Pollution degree 3 means it tolerates conductive dust in typical industrial enclosures.
Switching performance and coil data
The contactor handles switching frequencies appropriate to the duty: up to 1200 cycles/hour at AC-1 (resistive), 1000 at AC-3, 750 at AC-2, and 250 at AC-4. Arcing time is 10 to 15 ms, with an AC operating time of 7 to 20 ms. Coil operates at 50 Hz with a rated value of 230 V, and the coil pick-up/drop-out ratio spans 0.8 to 1.1 at 50 Hz. Auxiliary contact ratings are provided for DC switching: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.3 A at 220 V, and 6 A at 230 V AC, 3 A at 400 V AC.
