Mounting and Integration
The 3RT1034-3BD40: Mounts via screw and snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The S2 footprint is 55 mm wide, 112 mm tall, 130 mm deep — a standard slice that fits alongside other SIRIUS gear. Side-by-side mounting is permitted, so you can pack multiple contactors on the same rail without a mandatory gap. Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting 2x (0.75…25 mm²) stranded or 2x (0.25…2.5 mm²) solid. Auxiliary terminals take 2x (0.75…16 mm²) solid or stranded. Pollution degree 3 means it is rated for industrial environments with conductive dust or condensation.
Ratings That Drive Selection
AC-3 motor switching is the headline: 18.5 kW at 500 V and 10 kW at 690 V. For resistive or lightly inductive loads (AC-1), the contactor can cycle up to 1 200 operations per hour; AC-3 allows 1 000 ops/h; AC-4 jogging is limited to 250 ops/h. The mechanical life is 10 million operations typical — that is the contactor body itself, not the contacts under load. The coil picks up at 80 % of rated control voltage (42 V) and drops out at 110 %, so it holds in during sags but releases cleanly on brownout. Arcing time is 10…15 ms, which matters for coordination with upstream protection.
