What this contactor is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1035-1AR60-1AA0 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the Size S2 frame, rated for 400 V at 50 Hz and 400...440 V at 60 Hz. It is a current-production part, still in active manufacture. This contactor switches motor loads: at AC-2 duty (slip-ring motors, soft-start) it handles 18.5 kW at 400 V; at AC-3 duty (squirrel-cage motors, direct-on-line) it handles 22 kW at 500 V; at AC-4 duty (plugging, inching) it handles 11.4 kW at 690 V. The AC-3 rating at 400 V is the one that governs most standard induction motor applications. The contactor mounts via screw and snap-on onto a 35 mm standard mounting rail per DIN EN 50022, so it integrates directly into a standard DIN-rail panel. Side-by-side mounting is permitted without derating, which saves rail space in multi-contactor groups.
Termination and wiring
Main current circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting solid conductors: 2x (0.5...1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75...2.5 mm²), max 2x (0.75...4 mm²). Stranded conductors accept 2x (0.75...25 mm²), and the combined solid-or-stranded range is 2x (0.75...16 mm²). This covers most panel wiring from control-circuit tails to motor feeders. The front face is IP20, the terminal area is IP00 — finger-safe on the operator side, but the wiring zone expects enclosure protection. Pollution degree 3 (conductive pollution, typical of industrial panels) is the rated environment.
Coil and auxiliary contact ratings
Auxiliary contact ratings are given for DC switching: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.3 A at 220 V. AC auxiliary switching is 6 A at 230 V and 3 A at 400 V. These are the make/break limits for the built-in aux contacts — useful for interlocking and PLC inputs. Mechanical life is 10,000,000 operations typical. Maximum switching frequency varies by duty: 1,200 cycles/hour at AC-1 (resistive), 1,000 at AC-3, 600 at AC-2, and 300 at AC-4. The AC-4 limit reflects the heavier arc wear during plugging/reversing. Arcing time is 10...15 ms; pickup and dropout at AC is 7...20 ms.
