SIRIUS S2 contactor — 24 VAC coil, motor-rated switching
Its AC-2 rating at 400 V delivers 22 kW for slip-ring motor duty, while the AC-4 rating at 400 V handles 41 A for reversing or inching applications — the rating that governs real electromechanical stress, not the thermal current. The coil holds at 24 VAC nominal, with an operating range of 0.8 to 1.1 times rated voltage at 50 Hz.
Mounting and termination — DIN-rail snap-on, screw terminals
The S2 frame occupies 55 mm width, 112 mm height, and 164 mm depth — measure the enclosure depth before committing; that 164 mm projection can interfere with gland plates in shallow 200 mm cabinets. Main circuit terminals are screw-type, accepting solid conductors from 2x 0.5 to 4 mm² and stranded up to 2x 25 mm². The minimum permissible cross-section at 40 °C is 16 mm² — sized for the full thermal current without derating in a warm panel. Pollution degree 3 (conductive pollution) means the contactor is suited for industrial enclosures where some condensation or dust is expected.
Switching capacity and motor duty
At 500 V, the contactor switches 30 kW; at 690 V, 11.4 kW — the voltage derating reflects the arcing constraints at higher potentials. Maximum switching frequency varies by duty: 1000 cycles/hour at AC-1 resistive, 800 at AC-3 (standard squirrel-cage starting), 400 at AC-2, and 300 at AC-4. For a high-cycle application like a stamping press with frequent reversals, the AC-4 limit of 300 cycles/hour is the binding constraint. DC switching capacity is also specified: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.3 A at 220 V. If you are switching DC brake coils or solenoid valves, use these figures — the AC ratings do not carry over.
