Integrator's note on the 3RT1036-1AD20
The Siemens 3RT1036-1AD20 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S2 frame, rated for 30 kW at 500 V in AC-3 duty — that's the motor-switching number that governs the real-world fit for a 3-phase induction motor on a conveyor or pump. Mechanical life is rated at 10 million operations typical, and the electrical endurance varies by duty cycle: 1000 operations per hour at AC-1 (resistive loads), 800 per hour at AC-3 (motor starting), and 300 per hour at AC-4 (plugging/inching).
Main circuit terminals accept solid wire from 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) up to 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²) for the smaller range, and stranded wire from 2x (0.75 to 25 mm²). The combined solid-or-stranded range covers 2x (0.75 to 16 mm²). That's a wide clamp — covers everything from control-circuit tails up to the main motor feed for a 30 kW load. No ferrule required for stranded, but it's good practice on the smaller gauges. Coil operating range is 0.8 to 1.1 times rated voltage at 50 Hz, 0.85 to 1.1 at 60 Hz. Pickup time at AC is 7 to 20 ms, arcing time 10 to 15 ms — fast enough for most sequencing but not a high-speed transfer switch. The auxiliary contact ratings cover 24 V at 10 A, 60 V at 2 A, 110 V at 1 A, 220 V at 0.3 A, 230 V at 6 A, and 400 V at 3 A — enough for pilot-duty control circuits.
