What it is and what it does
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1036-1AP00-ZW96 is a size S2 power contactor for switching motor loads in control panels. It's rated for 22 kW at 400 V in AC-2 duty, which covers slip-ring motor starting and reversing — the kind of load that sees moderate inrush but needs reliable weld-free breaking. The AC-4 rating of 41 A at 400 V covers plugging and inching duty, so it handles the harder stops too.
Mounting and wiring
Snaps onto 35 mm DIN rail per DIN EN 50022, or screw-mounts. At 55 mm wide it takes a standard panel slot. Screw-type terminals on the main circuit accept up to 2x 25 mm² stranded or 2x 16 mm² solid, fine for the 22 kW motor feed. Side-by-side mounting is allowed — no derating gap needed for the coil, but watch the heat buildup if you pack a row of these at full AC-4 current.
Coil and auxiliary ratings
The coil operates at 50 Hz, 230 V rated value. Switching times are 7 to 20 ms for closing, arcing time 10 to 15 ms. The auxiliary contacts handle 10 A at 24 V, dropping to 0.3 A at 220 V — enough for PLC inputs or relay coils, but check the load curve if you're driving a solenoid bank. Mechanical life is typical 10 million operations; electrical life depends on the duty cycle — AC-1 allows 1000 cycles/hour, AC-3 drops to 800, AC-4 to 300.
