What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1044-1XF00-0GA0 is a SIRIUS S3 power contactor, designed for switching motor loads and resistive loads in industrial control panels. It's rated for 37 kW at 500 V under AC-3 duty, which is the standard category for starting and stopping squirrel-cage motors during running — the rating that governs real motor sizing. At 400 V AC-2 (slip-ring motors, moderate overloads) it carries 30 kW. The contactor mounts on 35 mm or 75 mm DIN rail via the screw-and-snap-on method, and side-by-side mounting is permitted, so you can pack several units in a row without derating for heat buildup. The main circuit uses screw-type terminals, accepting solid conductors from 2x 0.5 mm² up to 2x 4 mm², and stranded from 2x 10 mm² to 2x 50 mm². That's a wide enough range to handle both control wiring and power tails without adapters. The front face carries IP20 protection with the cover or box terminal fitted; the terminal body itself is IP00, so keep it inside an enclosure.
Panel integration and environment
The S3 frame measures 176 mm high by 70 mm wide by 152 mm deep. That depth matters when you're laying out gland plates and cable ducts — 152 mm is the body depth, not counting any protruding terminals or arc chambers. Operating temperature spans -25 °C to +60 °C, storage from -55 °C to +80 °C. Pollution degree 3 means it's rated for conductive pollution environments typical of industrial floors — no special coating needed for most plant air.
