SIRIUS 3RT1046-3AF04 — Power Contactor, Size S3
The Siemens 3RT1046-3AF04 is a SIRIUS power contactor in frame size S3, rated for motor switching at 45 kW in AC-2 duty at 400 V and 80 A in AC-4 duty at 400 V. That AC-4 rating matters for reversing or plugging applications where the contactor opens under full locked-rotor current — the 80 A figure is the real-world limit for those harsh cycles, not the thermal continuous current. It mounts on 35 mm or 75 mm DIN rail via screw and snap-on fastening, and the screw-type terminals for the main circuit accept 2x (10... 50 mm²) stranded or 2x (0.25... 2.5 mm²) solid wire. The front terminals carry IP20 protection with the cover or box terminal installed; the terminal body itself is IP00. Dimensions are 146 mm height, 70 mm width, and 188 mm depth — that depth is the dimension that often catches panel layouts when swapping from a smaller frame.

Integration Note
Wire termination: main circuit screw terminals accept 10–50 mm² stranded (2 conductors) or 0.25–2.5 mm² solid (2 conductors). The control circuit terminals accept 2.5–16 mm² solid or stranded (2 conductors). Strip lengths and torque values follow the standard SIRIUS terminal specifications for the S3 frame. The 188 mm depth is the dimension to verify against enclosure depth and gland plate clearance — it is deeper than the S2 frame contactors. Panel layouts originally dimensioned for a 3RT1044 frame (S2) may need a deeper enclosure or a spacer bracket.
