Sizing the power path for the S6 frame
The 3RT1054-6AD36: This is a SIRIUS S6-frame power contactor — the largest standard frame in the SIRIUS contactor family, sized for heavy motor and resistive loads where the main power conductors run 25 to 120 mm² stranded. The 120 mm width and 172 mm height mean it fills a full-width slot on a DIN-rail or backplate; plan the enclosure layout around that footprint, not a smaller S3 or S0. The main pole termination accepts 25–120 mm² stranded copper — that's a single cable up to 4/0 AWG or two parallel runs.
Switching duty and operating cycle limits
If your application cycles faster than these limits, the contactor will overheat and fail early — plan for a larger frame or a different switching topology. That's typical for a contactor this size — the operator will see a 50–70 ms delay from the PLC output turning on to the motor actually starting.
Mounting position and clearance requirements
Mounting is by screw fixing through 9 mm diameter holes. Those are the minimum air gaps to adjacent metalwork or other devices; crowding them reduces arc-quenching performance.
Environmental limits for storage and operation
If the panel ambient exceeds 60 °C at full load, the contactor needs derating or forced ventilation — the datasheet's thermal derating curve (not reproduced here) governs the actual continuous current at elevated temperatures.
Auxiliary contact ratings and control supply
The contactor includes an auxiliary switch. These are the make/break capacities for the auxiliary contacts — if your PLC output drives a 48 VDC auxiliary load above 2 A, you need an interposing relay.
