What it is and where it fits
The Siemens 3RT1316-1BB40 is a SIRIUS power contactor in frame size S00, built for switching resistive and light inductive loads in control panels. Its 45 mm wide body snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, so it integrates directly into a standard panel layout alongside motor starters, relays, and terminal blocks. Four normally-open main contacts handle the power circuit, with a rated operational current of 10 A at AC-12 (resistive) and a 24 V DC coil that pulls 3.3 W on closing and holds at the same power — no AC hum, no inrush spike to worry about on a DC supply.
What the ratings mean for your panel
The AC-2 rating at 400 V gives 4 kW switching capacity for slip-ring motor loads, while the AC-12 rating of 10 A covers resistive heater or transformer primaries. For DC switching, the contactor is rated 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V — note the steep derating as voltage rises, typical for DC interruption where arc extinction is harder. Short-circuit coordination is specified for both Type 1 and Type 2: a gL/gG fuse of 35 A for Type 1 (no damage to the contactor but may need contact cleaning), or 20 A for Type 2 (contactor remains fully serviceable after a fault). This lets the panel designer choose the protection level that matches the uptime requirements of the line. The enclosure carries IP20 on both the front and terminals — finger-safe but not washdown-rated. Ambient temperature range of -25 to +60 °C covers most indoor industrial environments, and the pollution degree 3 rating means it's suitable for atmospheres with conductive dust or occasional condensation.
Termination and wiring notes
Screw-type terminals on both the main and auxiliary circuits accept solid or stranded wire: 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²), 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²), or max 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²). For AWG, the range is 2x (20 to 16), 2x (18 to 14), or 1x 12. Finely stranded conductors need ferruled ends. Side-by-side mounting is permitted, so multiple contactors can be ganged without spacing — useful for compact multi-load panels.
