What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1316-2AP60 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S00 frame size, with four normally open (4 NO) main contacts. It uses spring-loaded terminals for the main current circuit, accepting 2x (0.25 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire, or 2x (24 to 14) AWG. Rated for AC-12 duty at 10 A maximum operating current, it handles resistive loads in control circuits. For motor loads under AC-2 duty at 400 V, it is rated for 4 kW — that covers small pumps, fans, and compressors in light-to-moderate starting duty. The coil is rated for 220 V at 50 Hz and 240 V at 60 Hz, with an operating range of 0.85 to 1.1 at 50 Hz, and 0.8 to 1.1 at 60 Hz.
Mounting and integration
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The 45 mm width and 72 mm depth fit standard panel layouts. Side-by-side mounting is allowed with zero side clearance — no derating needed for adjacent units. IP20 on the front and at the terminals means it is protected against finger contact but not moisture — keep it inside a rated enclosure. Pollution degree 3 (conductive pollution) is assumed, so it is suited for industrial environments where occasional condensation or light contamination occurs.
Switching capability and coordination
DC switching ratings cover common control voltages: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, and 0.3 A at 220 V. AC switching at 230 V is rated 6 A, and at 400 V it is 3 A — these are the resistive/inductive loads the contacts can break without excessive wear. For short-circuit coordination, Type 2 (no damage to the contactor) requires a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A. Type 1 (contactor may need replacement) allows a 35 A fuse. This matters for selectivity studies — if upstream protection is already set at 35 A, you are limited to Type 1 coordination. Mechanical life is rated at 30 million operating cycles typical — that is a high endurance figure for a size S00 frame, reflecting the SIRIUS series' design for long service in high-cycling applications like conveyor lines or packaging machines.
Environmental limits
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C during operation. Maximum installation altitude is 2 000 m without derating — above that, air density affects dielectric withstand and cooling, so consult the thermal derating curves.
