SIRIUS 3RT1316-2AR60 — 4-pole power contactor, size S00
The Siemens SIRIUS 3RT1316-2AR60 is a 4-pole power contactor in the compact S00 frame size, with four normally open main contacts and a 400 V AC 50/60 Hz coil. It's rated to switch 4 kW motor loads at AC-2 duty on a 400 V line — that's the figure that governs real motor-switching applications like conveyors and pumps, where the load is inductive and the contactor sees frequent make/break cycles. The S00 footprint (45 mm wide, 60 mm tall, 72 mm deep) is the smallest in the SIRIUS contactor family, designed for high-density panel layouts where every millimeter of DIN rail counts. Termination is via spring-loaded terminals (cage-clamp style), accepting 2x (0.25... 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire, or 2x (24... 14) AWG. This saves the panel builder time versus screw terminals — no torque driver needed, just strip to 8 mm and push in. The contactor mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022, and side-by-side mounting is permitted with zero clearance, so you can pack them tight on the rail without derating.
Coil and control circuit
The coil is rated for 400 V AC at 50 Hz, and 400... 440 V AC at 60 Hz. It operates reliably across 0.85... 1.1 times the rated voltage at both frequencies — meaning the coil will pick up and hold from about 340 V to 440 V at 50 Hz, and 340 V to 484 V at 60 Hz. This wide tolerance handles typical line sags without nuisance dropout. The contactor also carries auxiliary contact ratings across common control voltages: 10 A at 24 V, 6 A at 230 V, and 3 A at 400 V, all resistive (AC-12 duty).
Integration and protection
The contactor is rated for pollution degree 3 (industrial environment with conductive or dry non-conductive pollution). The front and terminal areas carry IP20 finger protection, so it's safe for open-panel installations where operators might brush against live parts. Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, and it can be installed at altitudes up to 2,000 m without derating. For short-circuit protection, the manufacturer recommends a gL/gG fuse rated 20 A for type 2 coordination (no damage to the contactor), or 35 A for type 1 coordination (contactor may need replacement after a fault).
