Integrator's first look
The Siemens 3RT1317-1AD00 is a SIRIUS power contactor in the S00 frame size — the smallest footprint in the family at 45 mm wide, 57.5 mm high, and 72 mm deep. Screw-type terminals accept 2x (0.5 to 1.5 mm²) solid or 2x (0.75 to 2.5 mm²) stranded, with a maximum of 2x (0.75 to 4 mm²).
The 5.5 kW at AC-2 400 V rating is the motor-switching figure that governs real-world use — AC-2 covers slip-ring motors and other loads where the contactor makes and breaks at full load. For resistive loads (AC-1), the same contactor handles up to 10 A continuous. The 4 NO main contact arrangement means this contactor closes all four poles simultaneously; there are no NC main contacts on this variant. Short-circuit coordination is specified: Type 2 coordination requires a 20 A gL/gG fuse, while Type 1 allows a 35 A fuse — important for selectivity studies in the panel. Auxiliary contact ratings span 10 A at 24 V up to 0.3 A at 220 V, covering typical PLC and relay interface voltages. The contactor is approved for side-by-side mounting without derating, which saves panel space when multiple contactors are ganged.
At 45 mm wide, this S00 contactor occupies a single 45 mm slot on a DIN rail. Screw terminals are clearly marked and accept ferruled conductors; strip length for the main circuit terminals is approximately 10 mm. The IP20 rating means the contactor is touch-safe out of the box — no additional terminal covers are needed for standard panel builds.
