What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3RT1317-2AR60 is a SIRIUS power contactor in size S00, with four normally-open (4 NO) main contacts and spring-loaded terminals for the main circuit. It is rated for AC-2 duty at 5.5 kW at 400 V, meaning it handles slip-ring motor loads — wound-rotor motors common in cranes, hoists, and some mill drives — where the contactor makes and breaks the rotor circuit under load. The 4 NO configuration gives you four independently switched poles, useful for multi-phase motor control or distributing a single supply across several loads.
Mounting and integration
Mounts via screw or snap-on onto a 35 mm DIN rail per EN 50022. The 45 mm width and 72 mm depth fit a standard 45 mm-wide slot in a panel layout — no overhang. Side-by-side mounting is allowed, with 6 mm clearance to adjacent devices for heat dissipation. Pollution degree 3 means it's rated for industrial environments with conductive pollution (condensation, dust), so it survives inside a non-sealed panel in a mill or factory floor.
Termination and wiring
Spring-loaded terminals on the main circuit accept 2x (0.25 to 2.5 mm²) solid or stranded wire, or 2x (24 to 14 AWG). No screw torque to check — push the wire in, done. That saves time on a panel build and holds firm under vibration. The control circuit (coil) terminals are also IP20-rated, same as the front.
Environmental and approvals
Operating temperature range is -25 to +60 °C, which covers most indoor industrial panels. Altitude rating up to 2 000 m without derating. The contactor carries a mechanical endurance of 30 million operating cycles typical — that's the mechanical life of the armature, not the electrical life under load (which depends on switching current and voltage).
