The Siemens 3RT1346-1AN20 is a SIRIUS S3 power contactor, screw-type terminals on the main circuit, rated for motor loads up to 53 kW at 230 V (60 °C ambient) with an insulation voltage of 1 000 V. Snaps onto 35 mm or 75 mm DIN rail, or screws directly to the panel — side-by-side mounting permitted, so no derating gap needed between units in a crowded enclosure.
Ratings and fit
The AC-3 motor-switching curve is the one that governs real motor loads, not the AC-1 resistive figure. At 230 V and 60 °C this contactor handles 53 kW — that is a 3-pole 230 V motor load. The 1 000 V rated insulation voltage (degree of pollution 3) means it can sit in a 480 V or 600 V panel with full clearance; pollution degree 3 is the standard for industrial enclosures where conductive dust or condensation is possible. DC switching is covered: 10 A at 24 V, 2 A at 60 V, 1 A at 110 V, 0.3 A at 220 V — these are the DC-1 resistive current limits. For inductive DC loads (brake coils, solenoid valves) derate further; the arcing time of 10–15 ms on AC gives a sense of the contact gap speed. Terminal capacity: stranded wire up to 2x 50 mm² (at 40 °C) or 2x 35 mm² (at 60 °C). Solid wire accepts 2x (0.5–1.5 mm²) on the control side, 2x (0.75–2.5 mm²) on the auxiliary contacts. AWG equivalent for the main contacts is 2x (10–1/0). Front panel is IP20 with the cover or box terminal installed; the terminal block itself is IP00 (no finger-safe protection without the cover). Operating temperature range -25 to +60 °C, storage -55 to +80 °C.
