SIRIUS S6 Contactor for Motor Loads
The Siemens 3RT1456-6SP36 is a Size S6 contactor from the SIRIUS family, designed for switching motor loads in industrial control panels. It carries a 200-277 V AC/DC coil with screw-type terminals and an auxiliary switch block integrated into the frame. The MTBF of 75 a reflects the mechanical endurance typical of this class — 10 million operating cycles — making it a candidate for a critical spare on a conveyor or pump line where downtime costs more than the part.
Coil and Auxiliary Ratings
Coil pick-up and drop-out times are symmetrical: 115-130 ms on both AC and DC, with an arcing time of 10-15 ms. The auxiliary contact block handles 10 A at 24 V, derating to 0.3 A at 220 V — enough for PLC input sensing or relay interposing on a 24 VDC control bus. The screw-type terminals on the coil accept 2x 0.5-1.5 mm² solid or 2x 0.75-2.5 mm² stranded, with a maximum of 2x 0.75-4 mm².
Mounting and Clearances
Mounting is by screw fixing on a vertical surface, rotatable ±90° and tiltable ±22.5° forward/back. Minimum clearances: 10 mm upwards and downwards, 20 mm forwards, 10 mm at the side. The main power terminals accept stranded conductors from 25 to 120 mm² — sized for the S6 frame's current rating. The 172 mm height, 120 mm width, and 170 mm depth fit a standard 600 mm deep enclosure with room for the arcing clearance.
